Bo’ao is already well-known for its association with the Bo’ao Forum for Asia (B.A.F.).
The B.A.F. is an international non-governmental and non-profit organisation whose stated aim is support for and development of economic exchanges, co-operation and partnership both in Asia and in the wider world.
During the annual Forum high-level meetings take place among representatives of governments, the business community, the industrial and scientific fields, officially termed ‘conferences’.

The Bo’ao Forum for Asia was established in 2001.
Regular sessions have been taking place since 2002 in Bo’ao where the Forum has its permanent headquarters.

The former Prime Minister of Australia Bob Hawke is one of the founders of the Forum and was present at its first convening in 2002. He stated that for its growth and development Asia needed a platform which would unite the countries of the region and enable them to gain a greater understanding of one another.

Every year the Forum selects a topic for discussion:
Representatives of a variety of different organisations are happy to attend the annual forum seeing as it is located in a fabulous natural setting with warm sea, beautiful hills and luxurious hotel rooms at ones disposal, all of which seems to facilitate productive debate and discussion. And with the opening of the new Bo’ao airport the prestige of the Bo’ao Forum for Asia has been raised, and its accessibility and security have been improved significantly. The fact that leading Chinese politicians attend the Forum every year underscores how much importance the event’s Chinese hosts attach to the summit.
- The place where the Forum was founded (the inaugural site) and the location where the annual conferences take place (the permanent site) are now sightseeing spots open to members of the public and tourists alike.
- Special viewings are available taking tourists inside the main Forum building. A professional photographer will take a photo of you standing on the stage as though you were a conference delegate yourself! Souvenir photos are then available to purchase complete with the B.A.F. logo on.
- Except for when the Forum itself is in session, Bo’ao’s five-star luxury hotels are open to the public. Needless to say, Bo’ao’s hotels are of the highest quality.
