Bo’ao is already well-known for its association with the Bo’ao Forum for Asia (B.A.F.).

The B.A.F. is an international non-governmental and non-profit organisation whose stated aim is support for and development of economic exchanges, co-operation and partnership both in Asia and in the wider world.


During the annual Forum high-level meetings take place among representatives of governments, the business community, the industrial and scientific fields, officially termed ‘conferences’.

Regular sessions have been taking place since 2002 in Bo’ao where the Forum has its permanent headquarters.

Bob Hawke

The former Prime Minister of Australia Bob Hawke is one of the founders of the Forum and was present at its first convening in 2002. He stated that for its growth and development Asia needed a platform which would unite the countries of the region and enable them to gain a greater understanding of one another.

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Forum for the third time which signifies the high regard in which this body is held by the Chinese government. Through the Forum China hopes to increase the scope of its co-operation with the countries of Asia and the wider world;

  • The place where the Forum was founded (the inaugural site) and the location where the annual conferences take place (the permanent site) are now sightseeing spots open to members of the public and tourists alike.
